Abstract:
Many product designers are incorporating wireless functionality into new or existing designs. In many cases, on-board (or self-generated) EMI from digital bus, clocks or DC-DC converters couples throughout the board. If the product uses wireless, GPS, or cellular technologies, the EMI from these on-board sources often interferes with the receiver sensitivity of the wireless modules causing poor connectivity. This presentation describes a standardized method for characterizing and debugging these on-board EMI sources by using an oscilloscope - an instrument available to most designers.
